Hand Matrix
The Hand Matrix shows all 169 hands for a player at a node, visualizing strategies, probabilities, and optionally EV, EQ, or EQR, helping analyze GTO decisions
1. Introduction
The Hand Matrix is a key component for analyzing your GTO results. It displays all 169 isomorphic hands (e.g., AKs, 77, etc.) for the currently selected player action node.
Each hand is represented by a hand pip, a rectangle showing the hand’s strategy, probability, and optionally, EV/EQ/EQR.
- The top left of each hand pip shows the hand name (e.g., AA, KQs).
- The bottom right displays the second value if a display option with two values is selected (e.g., EV, EQ, EQR).

2. Hand Pip Ordering
The Hand Matrix is divided into three sections:
- Left diagonal: All unsuited hands
- Middle diagonal: All pocket pairs
- Right diagonal: All suited hands
Hand ordering within these sections is systematic:
- Unsuited hands: are ordered vertically
- Suited hands: are ordered horizontally
3. Display Options
By default, the Hand Matrix shows the current strategy for each hand. On desktop, the EV is also displayed in the bottom right of each pip.
A dropdown above the Hand Matrix allows you to select the displayed metric:
- Strategy: Shows action probabilities for each hand.
- Width of each rectangle ∝ action probability
- Height of each rectangle ∝ hand probability to reach this node
- Strategy + EV: Strategy plus EV in bottom right
- Strategy + EQ: Strategy plus EQ in bottom right
- Strategy + EQR: Strategy plus EQR in bottom right
- EV: Heatmap of EV, with the value in bottom right and color proportional to EV relative to the full range
- EQ: Heatmap of EQ, same as EV above
- EQR: Heatmap of EQR; green if EQR > EQ, red if EQR < EQ
- Range: Displays the weight of each hand (probability it reaches this node). Height of the pip ∝ hand weight
4. Selecting a Hand Pip
To select a hand pip:
- Hover over it → becomes the active pip temporarily
- Click it → locks it as the active pip until another hand is selected
Once active, the canonical hands for that hand are displayed in the Individual Hand Breakdowns section.
